It has different properties. In particular, it absorbs proteins, reduces the activity of enzymes. The most important output of bentonite in civil engineering techniques, especially in the waterproofing of buildings, dyke construction, piping, tunnel construction, there are two types of bentonite:
Sodium-based bentonite, which increases in volume when wet and can absorb several times its weight in water. It is used in oil drilling wells and geothermal research.
Calcium-based bentonite, which does not have these swelling properties, has meta-medicinal applications, the results of which must be proven.
